Edible Wild Plants is a pocketable field guide with characteristic photos, plant names (both popular and botanical names). The guide has a page for thirty-seven (37) of the more edible plants commonly found in the temperate zones of the United States and Canada. Each photo includes the breakdown of what part of the plant is edible. This field guide is the perfect complement to Karen Stephenson’s wild cookbook, Foraging Cookbook: 75 Recipes to Make the Most of Your Foraged Finds.
Lori is a landscape architect by original training and so we have special affection for good plant identification resources. It is still something of a game for us when outside. What is that plant? Extra points for the botanical name. The photography for Edible Wild Plants is beautiful with insets of identifying details. Lots of appeal for outdoorsy-types, gardeners, horticulturalists, and more. Edible Wild Plants is not comprehensive, but it is a handy pocketable resource to help you find food hidden in the wild.

After I bought the "Foraging Cookbook", I receive the "Edible Wild Plants" Pictorial Guide. The Pictorial Guide is an excellent supplement to the cookbook. The author, Karen Stephenson, has an extensive practical experience in the field, and she included in this pictorial the most common edible wild plants from USA and Canada. Each plant has a high resolution picture and a close-up, together with details about the plant name, scientific name, which parts are edible. The Guide is pocket size, easy to take in field trips. Greatly recommended!

The pictures make it easy to identify edible plants. So far I've only used it in my backyard. I'm surprised at the number of weeds I can eat that are hidden in my grass.

Love this book. It was the first book I purchased from Edible Wild Food.com. The photos and descriptions made it very easy to locate the plants and have fun with them, i.e. eat them and drink them in tea depending on the plant. I still have my original copy, I have bought many other copies for friends and family over the years ... it is worn, beaten and loved ... this is an amazing book for beginners or even more experienced foragers.
Reason I purchased this book was I was overwhelmed by all the edibles, this allowed me to pick a few and learn about them and then pick a few more ... I highly recommend this book for everyone. It is light so you can carry it with you anywhere.
